Canadian artist Christopher Webb took top honours in the Quasi Quadro International Contemporary Art Competition by winning the Residency Award. This made him not only the first North American artist selected to win this award, which began in 2018, but also the first painter to claim the prize. Along with collaborating with Associazione Quasi Quadra in Torino, Webb also took part in a week-long residency in the town of Barge located one hour south west of Turin, where he developed work that combined both painting and sound.

The theme chosen for this year is NATURE, TECHNOLOGY, ENERGY. What surrounds us is equivalent to our own substance, we are part of a single immense universe that welcomes and incorporates all beings and elements: nature. The human being, belonging to this group, feels the constant need to get closer, benefiting from it and feeling welcomed. Despite this, humans have managed to distinguish themselves and stand, for better or for worse, above other beings through different intellectual capacities. Next to nature therefore stands technology, through which man is able to cope with new problems and to satisfy his needs in a simpler way.

It is only through positive energy and the courage to dare that new possible actions can be generated, deconstructing obstacles and generating new dynamic forms of expression, allowing the development of a much broader vision that overturns and shifts points of view.
